Mike Rhea is a dedicated and compassionate counselor at Assure Recovery Center, bringing both professional expertise and personal insight to his work in addiction recovery. A San Diego native, Mike’s own journey through addiction and long-term recovery has shaped his deep understanding of the challenges clients face and the transformative potential of treatment.

Growing up during a time when substance use was widely normalized, Mike struggled with addiction for many years. After multiple attempts to get sober, he reached a turning point 26 years ago when he made the decision to commit fully to recovery. Through the support of a twelve-step program, Mike rebuilt his life—restoring relationships, co-parenting successfully with his now-sober ex-wife, and eventually returning to school to pursue a career in counseling.

Mike holds a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) credential and a bachelor’s degree in behavioral health. He has worked across a range of treatment settings and with diverse populations, which has given him the ability to connect with clients from all walks of life. His approach is individualized, empathetic, and grounded in lived experience.

Since joining Assure Recovery Center, Mike has been a valued part of the clinical team, known for his authenticity, commitment, and the rapport he builds with clients and staff alike. He is passionate about helping others find their own path to lasting recovery.
